Anger described his now iconic queer film to French magazine Les Inrockuptibles in 1997, in these terms: "An obsession with machines, motorbikes, cars or firearms is governed by the sign of Scorpio. It also governs the sexual organs, which are, in a sense, machines themselves. I see this attraction to machines, power, and speed as a projection of Mars’ energy. The lads in ‘Scorpio Rising’ didn’t realise that they were identifying sexually with their motorbikes, just like cowboys whose horses become part of themselves... I’ve always been fascinated by the survival of primitive and pagan traditions in everyday life.”
