Fiction : 93' / Lesbian, Migrations, Friendship, Trauma

At a beach town in the Greek archipelago, an unlikely encounter takes place: between Callie, a North American who has fallen to the charms of the Mediterranean and works there as a tour guide, and Jacqueline, the affluent daughter of an African political leader destituted by a youth in revolt. Two distinct manners of fleeing one’s own country, two lives with very little in common – the experience of leisure and wealth versus that of hunger, illicitness, and haunting. With a paced and never invasive gaze, the film observes the affinity between both women, with outbreaks from Jacqueline’s past life, both in London and Liberia, where she suffered both the privilege and severe punishment. This is the possible fiction and the portrait of today’s Mediterranean Sea, the recipient of mass tourism and of those anonymous thousands who suffer from war trauma. C.C.H.
