When the artist and photographer Jürgen Baldiga died of AIDS consequences in 1993, he left behind what was probably the most extensive body of work on HIV, AIDS, homosexuality and subculture in West Berlin in the 1980s and 1990s; it includes thousands of photographs and 40 diaries, over 7500 pages, beginning with his arrival in Berlin and ending with his death.

Born in 1965, Markus Stein worked as a camera assistant and assistant director before studying Directing at the Polish Film School in Łódź. He went on to work as a director, screenwriter, DOP and editor on numerous documentaries and feature films. He lives and works in Berlin.
